The leads — Amit Sadh and Taapsee Pannu — try to rescue the flailing script, but there are too many holes to plug. The two share an easy camaraderie, and with a better narrative, they might have created a sparkling romance.

Sadly, this one has too few laughs and not enough meat.

The story is funny and irreverent and the performances up to the mark. The music never gets in the way of the story and the length, at 1 hour 55 minutes, is just right. While the constant beeping out of the .com at the end of the title is a tad irritating, you can let that slide considering the film was stuck in limbo for three years.
While there may not be much of a Shaadi, there’s definitely a lot of fun running around that you may want to check out.

She is open to sex, drinking and buying condoms (an information the film sprinkles, for no reason at all). And yet when it comes to love, she would run away rather than tell her parents.Don’t get your hopes up. Running Shaadi goes about the website idea earnestly, before taking another bizarre tour, to Patna. If it is to introduce us to some delightful characters who could belong in a Dibakar Banerjee, we are not complaining. But how can you have a gem of a setting such as a girl being told to sing in front of her prospective in-laws, “anything”, because “kalakaar ko freedom chahiye,” and then let it all go to waste?

The name of Runningshaadi.com was changed to Running Shaadi when a matrimonial site objected to the film’s title. The makers probably didn’t realise how much it would eventually hurt the film’s flow. It feels like a party pooper and ruins the viewer experience every time the word ‘.com’ is bleeped. But this isn’t the only flaw that dogs Running Shaadi.Director Amit Roy may have unnecessarily stretched the film to 114 minutes. Running Shaadi has its moments, but they are too few to keep you engrossed.

When Bharose announces his plans for a ‘running shaadi‘ website, Nimmi asks: Why? The former’s response is: Hum kabhi ‘why’ nahin sochte, ‘why not’ sochte hai. When Running Shaadi was on the drawing board, why should have taken precedence over why not. It might have helped the film’s cause.
Even if we were to make allowances for its generally inoffensive nature, there would still be no running away from the fact that this is a shoddy shaadi, not the kind that will have you dancing in the aisles with joy.

In spite of an already short run time, the film seems stretched in the second half because of lack of enough content to hook you to the seat.

Running Shaadi is a breezy entertainer in parts. Taapsee does a good job as the spunky girl. Those with a taste for romantic films with a hint of comedy will enjoy it. A 2.5/5 for this one!

It sounds promising — A comedy that capers around helping couples elope, while underlining the generation gap between parents and their children and the travails that tag inter-state, inter-religion, inter-caste, inter-sub-caste and every other kind of ‘inter’ romances.Only if the script was better.

Only if the film maintained the promise of its beginning.

Only if situations weren’t conveniently and easily resolved (aggrieved parents forcing their daughter into an NRI).

Only if the director understood the potential of the story he had on his hands.

Only if a strong girl like Taapsee, who is perfectly comfortable in her sexuality and does not think twice about conning the man she loves to elope with her, didn’t cow down before her parents.
